AHPGA Golf Junior to Play Ladies Masters!
By Tony | February 4, 2008
13 year old Australian High Performance Golf Academy Junior Ellie Na has recieved a surprise wildcard invitation to play next week’s ANZ Ladies Golf Masters here on the Gold Coast.
At just 13 years 10 months and four days, Ellie qualified for last week’s Australian Womens Open and is believed to be the youngest player (male or female) to contest an Australian Open, and now she will tee it up alongside Karrie Webb, Ji-Yai Shin, Ai Miyazato and Laura Davies at this week’s Ladies Masters!!!!
Ellie has been at our golf school training with me for the past 8 months on her short game (chipping, pitching,putting and bunker play).
We have done a lot of work on simplifying Ellie’s technique, focusing on good balance, rhythm and feel with her short game and getting her to continually challenge and test her short game under ‘on course’ competitive intensity during her daily training.
“My short game (chipping and putting) is probably the best part of my golf and Annika Sorenstam is my hero,” she said in a recent article.
Another Australian High Performance Golf Academy teenager, Amy Yang, stunned the golf world two years ago when she won the ANZ Ladies Masters as a 16-year-old amateur.
Ellie is currently playing off a scratch handicap at Emerald Lakes GC and is a Queensland schools representative.
In a recent article in the Courier Mail, tournament chairman of the ANZ Ladies Masters Bob Tuohy had this to say about Ellie;
“She’s obviously a talented young player and we look forward to seeing her in action at the ANZ Ladies Masters next week,” said tournament chairman Bob Tuohy.
“We’re delighted to give her an invitation . . . it’s the spirit of this Masters to recognise and develop young talent.”
Congratulations Ellie on this fantastic achievement and all the best this week…..you are living the dream….enjoy this wonderful experience Ellie!
