AHPGA Student Comes Close in South Africa
Australian High Performance Golf Academy student Matthew Melrose narrowly missed qualifying for the South African Airways Open last night. Matt attempting to qualify for his national championship ( Matt comes from South Africa) for the first time shot a superb 5 under 67 in the pre-qualifying stage. This score placed him into a sudden death playoff, where unfortunately Matt failed to progress to the championship proper.
This years South African Airways Open field includes Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Greg Norman, Trevor Immelman and a host of stars. Many of these players are Matt`s boyhood heroes, and I know he would love to have had a chance of playing alongside these great players.
This was a great effort from Matt and all of the team at AHPGA congratulate him on his outstanding performance. Next year Matty!
