Dehydration- How It Can Affect Us Golfers
With summer fast approaching here in the southern hemisphere, and temperatures on the rise,it is a good time to talk about dehydration and the possible affects on you during competition and training.
SOME IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT WATER REQUIREMENTS
- Our bodies consist of over 50% water by weight, and 90% by volume, and our requirements for water are only secondary to our need for air!
- Water is the lifeblood of our muscles
- Water and fluids transport glucose to working muscles
- Water transports metabolic by products, eliminates waste products and dispels heat through the skin
By the time you are feeling thirsty, you are already experiencing the symptoms of dehydration
Early symptoms of dehydration to be aware of are;
- General fatigue
- Headache
- Muscle ache and fatigue
- Light headedness
- Heat intolerance
