Golf Training- Short Game
By Tony | February 12, 2008
In the seventh part of the series we look at week 5 of Stuart’s training program. For other parts of the series see the links under the “Categories” Menu
Today Stuart spent most of this morning’s golf training working on his green side scrambling.
Stuart has been working hard on improving his versatililty and creativity around the greens over the past 4 weeks of golf training at AHPGA with our ’short game improvement system’.
One of the weekly exercises for golf students at AHPGA is the ‘around the clock` green side scrambling exercise.
This exercise is performed under simulated ‘competitive intensity’.
In this exercise Stuart drops a ball approximately 1 to 2 metres from the edge of the green at a one o`clock position (relative to the position of the hole).
The objective is to get the ball up and down (play the ball onto the green and putt out) using what ever shot and club selection Stuart chooses.
He then procedes to repeat the exercise from a two o’clock position, 3 o’clock position and so on up until he reaches the twelve o’clock position.
By working his way around the green, he is faced with a variety of shots, low lofted running shots and higher trajectory shots etc.
After completing this exercise from within 1 to 2 metres from the edge of the green, Stuart repeats the process, only this time he drops the ball approximately 4 metres from the edge of the green and works his way around the clock.
You can continue to do this exercise from 6 metres, 9 metres etc.
By performing this exercise under simulated ‘competitive intensity’, Stuart is constantly enhancing his self belief system and confidence to be able to eventually execute the required shot/shot’s in competition.
We will reduce the technical training this week and do a lot of on course training under as much ‘competitve intensity’ as possible to prepare Stuart for next week’s Tasmanian Open.
Stuart has entered the Tasmanian Open along with Matthew Williams and Bobin Kang from AHPGA. Just for the record Stuart is now consistently scrambling (getting the ball up and down from around the green) at 70%…that is right up there with the best of the Tour players!!
