    Golf’s Set Up- The Swings Foundation!

    By Tony | October 18, 2007

    How you set up directly influences everything that follows in the swing. If your set up is out, then your pivot and range of movement and direction of movement is seriously affected!

    At Australian High Performance Golf Academy (AHPGA), our high performance students have been educated to make checking their set up as a part of their daily training routine.

    Set up consists of the following;

    Grip-Is your grip position and pressure the same as yesterday, or has it changed in some way? If you are making a grip position change, are your hands positioned correctly? At AHPGA most of our students train with various gripping aids.
    Ball Position- Has the ball position changed. Is the ball position too far forwards towards your front foot, or is it too far back towards your right foot? You can monitor this in a mirror.
    Stance-Check the width of your stance, and the pressure is correctly distributed through the feet. Do you feel balanced?
    Posture-check in the mirror if you are still in good posture at address. Form ( posture) directly influences function ( range of movement). Have you established good balance?
    Alignment-check in a mirror if your shoulders,forearms,knees and hips are correctly aligned to your intended target ( or if you are working on an alignment position change, that you are correctly aligned). Shoulder and forearm alignment directly influences the plane and path of the takeaway and backswing. Don`t forget to check your eye alignment, your eyes should be aligned parallel to your intended swing path.

    So the next time you are at the range, just take a few minutes to review your set up and make this a part of your daily practice program.

    By constantly monitoring your set up fundamentals you will never get too far away from your model set up position.
