Knocking on the Door of the World Golf Tours

It`s that time of the year again, the silly season of golf is about to start. This is the time when many golfers are preparing to get a `foot in the door` on one of the golf tours for season 2008, while the world`s elite players are playing for the big bucks in various invitational only tournaments around the world, namely the Nedbank Invitational in South Africa and Tiger`s own tournament the Target Challlenge. Wow! Talk about opposites end`s of the golf scale!

Could there possibly be a more intense, pressure fueled atmosphere than a Q School. This is where the players are putting everything on the line to possibly get a start on a golf tour and have somewhere to play next year, and (for a small percentage) a stepping stone to one day walking the fairways with the world`s elite players.

Over the next two months there are Q Schools for the various tours happening all over the world. Asian PGA Tour,Korea,Japan, South Africa ,Australia and last but certainly not least the lucrative USPGA Tour.

Five Australian High Performance Golf Academy students are currently playing/preparing for their chance to advance to the Final Stage of Q School and therefore increase their possibility of a place to play in 2008.

At the recent Asian Tour Q school in Malaysia ( Stage one -week one) over 200 hopefuls teed it up for a shot at advancing to the final stage and ultimately the possibility of an Asian Tour card for 2008. Only 11 players progressed through to the final stage needing a four round total of 289 (+1). In early December another 200 guys will tee it up for week two of first stage. Amongst these players will be Australian High Performance Golf Academy students Corey Taylor and Brett Partridge. All the best boys from all of us here at AHPGA. All your intensive training, hard work and preparation will hold you in good stead.

NOTE-There are approximately 40 Asian PGA Tour cards available for the 2008 season.

Steve Jeffress (AHPGA student) has gotten off to steady start shooting 71 (-1) and is currently placed in T14th position after the first round of Stage Two of the US Tour Q School. The top 14 players plus ties will advance to Final Stage. Keep up the good play Steve.

NOTE- This year only twenty five USPGA Tour cards for season 2008 will be issued. This reduction on previous year’s numbers is due to the increase in cards (25) given to Nationwide Tour graduates.
