Strong Winds Won’t Stop Golf Lessons

    By Tony | August 21, 2007

The Gold Coast of Australia: Perfect One Day, Cyclonic the next!!

Strong Winds Won't Stop Our Golf StudentsActually, it’s “Perfect One Day, Beautiful the Next!!” That’s what we like to tell all our interstate and overseas visitors, who visit South East Queensland to get away from the rain and wind, (or so they think). After months of drought, and cool winter days, we’ve taken a battering with a wild and windy today at Palm Meadows.

We love these kind of days, because it’s a rare opportunity for our golf students to experience the harsh realitities of the northern hemisphere climate that may well confront them as a touring professional. Our advanced golfer students were certainly tested today, with strong winds and rain squalls during their 18 hole rounding.

Lucky that they had any wet weather gear, these keen golfers were out to prove that a little wind isn’t going to spoil a round of golf. If you’ve seen the movie “The Greatest Game Ever Played“, you’ll relate to the conditions at Palm Meadows this glorious winter’s day.

What a fantastic experience for our dedicated team of advanced golfers, having to play lower flighted shots under the wind, and shape the ball when playing in the cross winds.

The greens were soft and receptive, another new experience for those players used to the faster firmer greens that you normally face here at Palm Meadows. It’s so important to get out there and play in all conditions. Learning to observe and adjust according to the playing conditions is essential if you’re going to play high performance golf.

Tomorrow I’ll sit down with our students (as we always do after a tournament) and go through a post analysis of their games. It’s a great self learning exercise to teach YOURSELF lower flighted shots, ball flight control etc….YOU need to know what shot shaping skills you currently posess, and what skills you still need to develop.

So next when you are faced with these conditions in a tournament you will be prepared and ready to go!
PS (If you don’t already own one) I suggest buying yourself a quality wet weather suit!
