The B.P.F.=M Golf Swing Principles at AHPGA

    By Tony | January 7, 2008

In the attached images you can see the swing improvements on one of our advanced junior players. Michelle has been working with me now for 10 months. When she first came to see me she had already been under the tutorage of another golf coach for the past 2 years, and was working on better impact alignments with very little success.
Firstly I explained to Michelle what she was currently doing and why she was not having success, and secondly what she needed to do differently to produce the desired results ( better compression at impact). Then I explained to Michelle how our B.P.F.=M swing principles would get her using the CLUB correctly.

You can see in the before (above image) and after (below image) swing images how Michelle has improved her club head store up, and how she now delivers the club with tremendous in line/ on plane force into impact.
When Michelle first came to see me she had a tendency on the downswing phase of her swing to release the club head too early, what we refer to as throwing the club head early, which resulted in poor contact and loss of power. Michelle did this because both she and her club were out of balance at address and during the swing. This early release of the club head is very common in golfers who slice the ball or suffer from inconsistent contact. If you look at the image above you can see when her hands are opposite the right hip on the down-swing (delivery phase) that the club head is well below the level of the hands and the right wrist and arm are straightening out too early (green line- loss of angle). The club shaft is out of balance and off plane at the delivery phase of the golf swing, resulting in a myriad of undesireable results, such as inconsitent contact, loss of power and poor directional control. Michelle is also unstable and out of balance as indicated by the lower body having moved too laterally towards the target (yellow triangle)

    Michelle balanced plane and force

In the image above (after the changes) you can see Michelle now stores up the force in her club so much better, and is able to deliver the club head on a good in line/ on plane force. Note how the club head is well above the hands and still behind the bent right wrist and forearm (green line -90 degree angle) in the delivery phase of the down-swing.The lower body is more centred, stable and in balance (yellow triangle). The result is a more consistent contact, better ball flight control and more power!
