Why is Tiger Dominating Golf ?
There are many theories floating around why Tiger is completely dominating the game of golf right now.
Most people believe it is because he has the best golf swing out there, and hits nothing but great golf shot after great shot. But in truth when we watch Tiger play golf, he hits his fair share of poor golf shots.
So if we were to base Tiger’s success purely on his golf swing, he would not be anywhere near as successful and dominant as he has been. He openly declares that he is constantly working on correcting swing flaws- or as he puts it “my golf swing is a work in progress and always will be”.
My theory is that Tiger is a ‘complete player’. He has the determination, drive, commitment, self belief, strong will and a competitive never give up mentality common in all champions.
Critical to Golf Performance
We only have to look at his book – “How I Play Golf”, to realise that Tiger (like the students at Australian High Performance Golf Academy) truly appreciates and understands the importance of the Critical to Performance areas like advanced short game skills, stategies and tactics (management), emotional and mental skillls and physical fitness (strength and flexibility) skills.
If we take a closer look at Tiger’s statistics through to the end of the BMW Championships ( Sept 9) we see Tiger is number one in all of the important stats……not just ball striking.
NOTE- PGA Tour Ranking is in brackets;
Greens in regulation 70.34% (1)
Putting Average 1.750 (10)
Driving Distance 302.7 Yards (9)
Birdies 3.82 (4)
All-Around-Ranking (1)
Par Breakers 22.22% (1)
Scoring Average Actual 69.45 (1)
Final Round scoring Average 69.00 (1)
Scrambling from >30 yards (1)
Scrambling from the rough (1)
Fairway Proximity (1)
Bounce Back 23.93% (6)
With impressive all-around golf stats like these, it is no surprise that Tiger is so dominant in the world of golf with earnings in excess of 9.6 million USD from only 15 events which is an incredible 4 million USD more than second placed Phil Mickleson who has played in 5 more events than Tiger!
