World Class Golf Players From Australia

Why is Australia Continuing to Produce World Class Players?

A question I am continually asked by our overseas students at AHPGA, is how can a country of only 21 Million People produce and continue to produce World Class Golfers?

Australia has always produced quality players from Peter Thomson, Five times British Open Golf Champion and Greg Norman who has won an amazing ninety one professional tournaments around the world, and held the No. 1 World Ranking for an astonishing 331 weeks (only recently surpassed by Tiger Woods)!
Golfers growing up in Australia are faced with all kinds of playing conditions. The competition is strong in Australia from junior golf to open golf events, and Australians are very competitive by nature!!!

We often play in strong winds and rain, so very quickly learn the skills of controlling trajectory and shaping the golf ball. There is a wide variety of golf courses from Seaside Links to Resort style and continually learning to alter the playing style to adjust to the various playing conditions prepares our golf players for all conditions they will face on the various World PGA Tours.

So why is Australia continuing to produce World Class Golf Players?

    Australian players are Complete Players!

What do I mean by Complete Golf Players? They do not have any weaknesses. They are quality ball strikers, have excellent short games, putt well and have strong mental and physical skills.

If we take a look at the Top 30 Money Leaders on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, European Tour and Japanese Tour, we find Australian Players prominent on all of these Tours.

In the current World Rankings there are no less than 5 Aussies in the Top 30.
Namely, Adam Scott (5), Geoff Ogilvy (9), Stuart Appleby (25), Nick Ohern (26) and Richard Green (30).

    You only have to take a look at the combined average of the above golf players current statistics to see that they are complete players;

    Scoring Avg. 71.54
    Driving Accuracy 61.03%
    Greens In Regulation 60.60%
    Putting Avg. (GIR) 1.77
    Putts Per Round 28.98
    Sand Saves 47.44%
    Scrambling 54.19%
    Bounce Back 20.40%
